Maraschino PIAZZA

Maraschino is a sweet liqueur made from the distillation of morello cherries, a type of cherry, more tart. It originates in the city of Zara. The oldest recipe dates back to the 16th century. Industrial production began in 1759 thanks to the merchant Francesco Drioli. Maraschino quickly conquered the European markets, especially the English one. The company became a licensed supplier of the sovereign courts with the right to use their respective coats of arms. Other producers who distinguished themselves in the production of Maraschino are Luxardo, Vlahov and Maraska. The production of Maraschino was seriously compromised by the war events of the Second World War: following the allied bombings, the distilleries were destroyed and the Zara’s entrepreneurs sought refuge in other regions of Italy. The square bottles of green glass were initially supplied by the Murano glassworks. The adoption of straw wrapping, according to the Venetian custom for long sea transports, which made their image characteristic over time, dates back to the early 1800s.

Il Maraschino è un liquore dolce ricavato dalla distillazione delle amarene, un tipo di ciliegia più aspra. Ha origine nella città di Zara. La ricetta più antica risale al XVI secolo. La produzione industriale iniziò nel 1759 grazie al mercante Francesco Drioli. Il Maraschino conquistò rapidamente i mercati europei, in particolare quello inglese. L’azienda divenne fornitrice autorizzata delle corti sovrane con diritto di utilizzare i rispettivi stemmi. Altri produttori che si distinsero nella produzione del Maraschino sono Luxardo, Vlahov e Maraska. La produzione del Maraschino fu seriamente compromessa dagli eventi bellici della Seconda Guerra Mondiale: in seguito ai bombardamenti alleati, le distillerie furono distrutte e gli imprenditori zaratini cercarono rifugio in altre regioni d’Italia. Le bottiglie quadrate di vetro verde furono inizialmente fornite dalle vetrerie di Murano. Risale ai primi anni del 1800 l’adozione dell’involucro impagliato, secondo l’usanza veneziana per i lunghi trasporti via mare, che ne rese nel tempo caratteristica l’immagine.
